I have produced work for many years that demonstrates a passion for the book, its content, design, and production. I continue to use Victorian ephemera and imagery as a source. This approach, coupled with contemporary and subversive-feminist attitudes in the literary components, brings history into the present and creates a curious contrast that appeals to me.
During my investigation of the artist's book, I have gained an increased comfort with the use of digital imagery and production techniques. Using current technology in the style of 19th century book designs, which are presented in handcrafted bindings, has reinforced my interest in the clash of the past with the present. As an artist who is an avid collector of images, objects, and words, I often intertwine these little treasures into artwork. Found books are frequently a source of idea and structure, the altered book.
A love of the collage process, dependence on my personal history as theme, and a hopelessly romantic nature are the underlying sources of my art practice. A dramatic and humorous attitude that gently mocks deeply held spiritual, sometimes sexual, beliefs is not uncommon in the work, the "dramedy" of love.
